The Classic Screwdriver

Your classic screwdriver is made with Vodka with Orange Juice. Pick this up at any wedding open bar. It not only makes easy but is also wildly easy to drink.

The Harvey Wallbanger

Screwdrivers are easy, but if you find yourself growing tired of them, there’s a simple twist to the recipe. The tweaked recipe is called the Harvey Wallbanger. Legend states that there was once a man named Harvey who wanted a sweeter Screwdriver. He ordered a screwdriver and requested that Galliano be added to it. On the way out of the bar, he banged his head on the wall – call it a drunken accident or perhaps he was too tall. Either way, the incident inspired the name of the drink.

Stoned Harvey

Couple clinking glasswareMy own twist on the Harvey Wallbanger, made with Black Tusk Smoked Vodka and resulting in a smokier cocktail, hence the name.

I personally find the Harvey Wallbanger too sweet. Orange juice is a mix of sweet and sour flavours, and Galliano is entirely sweet. So my recipe calls for adding 0.25 oz of lemon creating a slightly more sour experience, and a resulting more balanced drink.

I don’t always like playing by the books. So even though the recipe may call for orange juice, I like to experiment with different kinds of citrus. I experiment with grapefruit juice, navel oranges, mandarins, tangerines or even blood oranges – depends on what the season and harvest brings.

So despite my recipe below calling for 5 oz Orange Juice, the photographs you see are of a drink made with 1 oz grapefruit juice, 2 oz navel orange, and 2oz blood orange.
